Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to process my order?

Since each product is handmade, the processing time is 2–10 business days . If you need your product sooner, please leave a short note at checkout – we will try to accommodate your request. For questions or special requests, you can contact us directly by email at info@soulseil.com or via our contact form . We will reply as soon as possible and are happy to assist you personally.

Where did the ropes come from?

Our ropes come partly from climbing gyms that replace them for safety reasons, and partly from climbers who replace their ropes after years of use. This way, we avoid plastic waste and give the ropes a second life. Many of these ropes are our "special" ones – our soul ropes : ropes with a story, full of adventures and memories. You can read more about them HERE .

How and where are the ropes processed?

The ropes are first washed, dried, and sorted in a small workshop in Graz. Then the actual craft begins: measuring, cutting, drawing, winding, pressing, binding, whipping, braiding, dyeing, gluing, burning, and many other processing steps. Each piece is handmade – with great attention to detail and utmost care.

What materials are used?

Modern climbing ropes are mostly made of polyacrylic, nylon and other materials and follow the kernmantle construction :

  1. Coating: the colorful outer layer made of PP (polypropylene), often plain or colorfully patterned.
  2. Soul: the inner, extremely robust ropes – the lifesavers. We use these for eyeglass straps, packaging, and other products.

Why the name "soulseil"?

Our name "soulseil" comes from the inner ropes. These are the so-called " souls "—the robust strands inside—and from the fact that this "soul" lives on in our new products. At the same time, the name reflects our passion for craftsmanship, design, and even a touch of music—because for us, soul is simply essential .

Are "new" materials also used?

Only to a very limited extent: auxiliary materials such as glue, eyelets, beads, carabiners and screws are added new. Everything else is made from old ropes, second-hand or deadstock materials, for example our colorful accessory cords for eyeglass straps and wrist or ankle straps.

sustainability

Materials that continue to "last"

Even though the climbing ropes have seen a lot – they're still holding up! Your camera, your favorite clothes – everything is accompanied by carefully selected, robust and durable materials. This is how quality is created that not only looks good, but also holds onto what's important to you .

how it all began

From rock to design

As a designer and passionate climber, Elisabeth Steinwidder wanted to create a brand with soulseil that transforms discarded climbing ropes into new, functional pieces. It all started with her first climbing rope, which she consciously chose not to throw away. Early on, she engaged with sustainable design and questioned the throwaway culture – especially when it came to durable materials like climbing ropes, which are typically discarded after their initial use.
