ABOUT

Born to be upcyclers. Against the constant throwaway culture. We love new challenges. Nature. Sports. Change.

"soulseil combines passion: climbing, design and craftsmanship! Because we thrive on design and movement! True to our credo 'Recycle. Revalue.', we strive to highlight and emphasize the VALUE of the climbing rope in the best possible way. Recycled climbing ropes form the basis of our simple and useful products, demonstrating that even the durable material plastic can be recycled."

Ropes catch falls. Accompany. Rescue. Remind us of routes. Triumphs. Beautiful moments. Stories. Immortalized in the soul rope.

Just as individual as each of our products is, so too is the story of each individual rope: it is the peculiarities, the corners, edges and scars that make it special.

"Together with friends and partners, we are constantly working on new ideas. Our guiding principle is to create useful and beautiful things – with joy and enthusiasm! We live and work in Graz. So, if you'd like to pick up your order in Graz, simply select 'Pick-up' at checkout, and we'll contact you to arrange a time. This way, we save on shipping costs."

FAQ :

• WHY THE NAME "soulseil"?

Our name "soulseil" has several meanings: Firstly, it refers to the "souls" of climbing ropes, meaning the inner ropes. Secondly, it alludes to the "soul" of the climbing rope, which lives on in a new product. And of course: soulseil also stands for music, no question.

WHERE DO THE ROPES COME FROM?

The used ropes come partly from climbing gyms that replace them for safety reasons. We reduce this plastic waste by reusing the rope, which consists of polyacrylic, nylon, and other materials. We also receive ropes from climbers and customers who are replacing their ropes after years of use. These ropes are our "special" ones – our "soul ropes": ropes with a story and experiences. You can read more about them HERE .

• CAN I DONATE MY OLD CLIMBING ROPE?

If you have old climbing ropes you no longer need, please don't hesitate to donate them to us. Together, we can help keep nature clean and preserve memories of past adventures. Become part of our project and help create something new. You can find more information about our collection points in Innsbruck, Graz, and other locations HERE .

HOW ARE THE ROPES PROCESSED?

After receiving the often dirty and worn ropes, several work steps are required: (1) washing, (2) drying, (3) sorting. Only then does the actual craft begin: measuring, cutting, drawing, winding, pressing, binding, rigging, braiding, dyeing, gluing, burning, hatching, and many other processing steps.

• HOW ARE ROPES CONSTRUCTED?

Climbing ropes come in a variety of styles: solid-colored, two-tone, or brightly patterned – they often reflect the fashion of their time. While hemp ropes were used for climbing until the 1960s, modern ropes are mostly made of polyacrylic and are constructed using a kernmantle design.

(1) The sheath: The colorful outer layer of the rope is made of a PP compound. PP stands for polypropylene, a plastic compound.

(2) The Souls: Beneath the outer layer lie the true lifesavers – the inner ropes. These are extremely robust, strong, and often imperfectly beautiful. We use them to create unique eyeglass straps and as packaging material.

• ARE "NEW" PRODUCTS ALSO USED?

Apart from basic materials like glue, eyelets, beads, carabiners, and screws, we buy very little to nothing new. If we do need new items, we try to use second-hand or deadstock goods whenever possible, such as our accessory cords, which we use to make our colorful eyeglass straps, bracelets, and anklets.

• IN WHICH SHOPS ARE YOUR PRODUCTS SOLD?

Nature has a heartbeat too.

soulseil sustainability

VALUE
We focus on the value of each individual thing. The worth of every single product. After all, every product originates from a human idea. With meaning and benefit. We have rediscovered and emphasized this value of the climbing rope with soulseil.
CONSCIOUSLY
Since our launch in 2019, we have pursued a conscious and sustainable design concept. This includes selecting the right materials: from recycled ropes to old, unused second-hand and deadstock goods, which are used in both production and packaging. We strive for sustainability in all of soulseil's activities to counteract the fast-paced, throwaway culture – out of love for nature and for ourselves.

DURABILITY
Wherever possible, we complement our durable and long-lasting climbing rope with high-quality components and materials. In this way, we actively contribute to avoiding waste and create products that are built to last.

BENEFITS

The most important thing about all of this is the benefit (and the enjoyment, but that goes without saying). Our goal is to create products that are needed. Products that are useful. Because benefit, in turn, creates value. And that's our top priority.

Furthermore, we are a proud member of ZERO WASTE AUSTRIA .
